Casting Call: Jim Gordon

It was announced that they are developing a new tv series about a young Jim Gordon as a cop in Gotham having to deal with super powered criminals and the like pre-Batman.

They had a comic a number of years ago called Gotham Central that focused on the Major Crimes Unit dealing with the craziness of Mr. Freeze or Two-face from the perspective of ordinary cops.  And that comic was one of the best written of its time.  I hope this new show can capture that same kind of excitment, character and desperation.

So who should play Jim Gordon?

Well, lets take out anyone who is currently a regular on another show.  Let's also remove anyone who currently has a booming movie career.  So what are my suggestions?

Joshua Jackson

He's grown up since Dawson's Creek and his long stint on Fringe gives him the perfect training to play to rookie turned hard-edged, wise up and comer.

I think he was one of the best things about Arrow this year.  He's got charisma and can play complex emotions very well.

Give him an American accent and he could capture that haunted feel of the one good man in a place where evil is the rule rather than the exception.

Jumping to the other side of the law, Paul definitely has the emotional depth.  It would be very interesting to see if he could capture Gordon's moral code.

He's not stranger to the hero genre and he could fit in well with grizzled Gotham streets.

Donald Glover

Now that he is leaving Community, this would be a good time for him to show his dramatic acting chops.  Maybe he could pull a Bryan Cranston.

Let me know what you think:  vote in the poll on the upper right of my blog (not on the mobile version)

  1. Josh Jackson would be a great choice, but he's currently filming a new Showtime pilot, yet to know if it will be picked up.
