While I've come to enjoy football more over the last few years, the main draw of the Super Bowl for me has always been the commercials.
This year I wasn't horribly impressed. I don't think any of them will make a lasting cultural impression. But these are my thoughts:
Best Trailer: THE ADVENTURES OF CLIFF BOOTH
I love Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I don't think that this one is going be as good, but I found myself excited to see Cliff Booth again.
Singing toilets. I don't know how that cannot be weird.
These generational commercials always get me. As I've gotten older and feel the passage of time, this little movie about the passing on of a legacy, not just of a farm but of love, was moving.
Most Emotional - #2 REDFIN ROCK MORTGAGE
I know that this was a bit manipulative, but it touches on the alienation you feel going to a new neighborhood, but the strength and comfort you feel when you find your community.
Readers of this blog know what a big Affleck fan I am. As soon as I saw him dressed like Will Hunting, I was busting up laughing. I also love the nostalgia of all the classic '90's actors/characters, including Jasmine Guy to fill out the cast. It's such a wonderfully dumbed down and overly commercialized satire of the movie that I watched it several times.
All of these are my own subjective feelings. What are your thoughts?
