Monday Poetry: A Broad Minded Bishop Rebukes The Verminous St. Francis

Another poem by Chesterton.  Apparently, an Anglican bishop said that he didn't think much of St. Francis because he would have been dirty and probably covered in vermin.  Many Catholics of the day were outraged.  Chesterton decided to respond with humor.

A Broad Minded Bishop Rebukes The Verminous St. Francis

If Brother Francis pardoned Brother Flea,
There still seems need of such strange charity,
Seeing he is, for all his gay goodwill,
Bitten by funny little creatures still.
