This is still a must-see for me, but I hope the actual movie has more of a sense of joy and wonder; nobody here looks like they're having fun. I'd be able to overlook Abrams's flashy visual style if so.
The original trilogy was great, eps I-III were awful, and now ep. 7 is being directed by JJ Abrams who ruined the Star Trek reboot. So, no, I don't have much hope for this one. I hope I am wrong.
Come a long way since this conversation with Luke:
Han: "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid."
Luke: "You don’t believe in the Force, do you?"
Han: "Kid, I’ve flown from one side of this galaxy to the other. I’ve seen a lot of strange stuff, but I’ve never seen anything to make me believe there’s one all-powerful Force controlling everything. There’s no mystical energy field controls my destiny! It’s all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense."
Great to see Han's spiritual character arc. Brilliant.

ReplyDeleteDid anyone besides maybe Luke have a sense of joy in A New Hope?
