You Don't Want to Be Streets Behind

Community is coming back for its abbreviated 4th season starting this Thursday.  It has a rabid fan base (myself included) that is passionate about the show.  Fans from all over the world made this wonderfully creative plea to watch Community:

This video highlights both the great strength and great weakness of this show.

The strength is that it has such amazingly funny elements, hundreds of little jokes and bits, that create strange yet lovable world.  Like Arrested Development by the 3rd season, half of the jokes are inside jokes.  If you watch the show regularly, you are rewarded with this extra knowledge.  You and the show develop a shorthand, like old friends.

That is also its biggest flaw.  You can start watching The Big Bang Theory in any season and pick up what is going on fairly quickly.  I know a number of people who have done this, which is one of the reasons why it is currently the number one comedy on television.  But it is hard to simply jump onto Community.  It has actually developed a kind of rich central mythology, opaque the uninitiated.

For fans, Community makes us feel streets ahead.

But newcomers may feel streets behind.

Regardless, give this show a shot.  It is one of the best I have ever seen (and I watch more tv than Abed).

Cool cool cool.
