Charity of the Month: Toys for Tots

At our school, we do a program every Christmas where we bring in under-priviledged 1st graders in the community to our campus and we give give them breakfast, cookies, hats, mittens, and presents from Santa.

One teacher told me that for some of these kids, it would be the best Christmas they would ever have.  And one child refused to open her present.  When asked she said, "Because I want something to open for Christmas Day."

I wish I could describe what it is like to see these kids open their presents.  They light up brighter than the Christmas trees decorating the school.  And it isn't some materialistic greed that motivates them.  It's that someone cared enough about them to get them a present.

Toys for Tots gives 97% of their donations to the children.  Please remember that if you are thinking about giving it isn't about the the kid getting stuff.  It's about letting a child know that someone cares enough about them to give them a magical Christmas memory.

Please consider giving here.

(and as always, I will never ask anyone to do anything I have not done already)
