Movie Poll: Who Should Direct the New Star Wars

Two weeks ago it was announced that not only did George Lucas sell the Star Wars Empire to Disney but they would go into immeadiate preparation for Star Wars Episode VII.

Now while I am cautiously optimistic, this will also be the first time in a while that someone other than Lucas has directed a Star Wars film.

So who should take over the reigns of the Star Wars Universe?

After the unbelievable box office that came out with the Avengers, Whedon is a natural choice.  His schedule probably won't allow for it, what with Avengers 2 coming out the same year as Episode VII, but he can definitely handle an epic, ensemble tale.  And he knows how to make sci-fi opera with Firefly and Serenity.

He has handles sci-fi with Iron Man and Zathura.  He also can key in to fun personality traits as he did when he brought Tony Stark to the big screen.

Peter Jackson

Even though he will be tweaking his Hobbit trilogy, Jackson is an expert at using special effects to tell very emotional, character driven stories while never losing a sense of the spectacle.

David Yates

The director of the last 4 Harry Potter films has the ability to take a very dense story and boil it down to its most essential parts.  He can satisfy fans and neophytes alike while coaxing out some truly great performances.

Brad Bird

He made the successful transition from directing animation to live action with Mission:Impossible Ghost Protocol.  His background at PIXAR will lead to a focus on a solid story with fantastic imagination behind it.
